How to Create System Repair Disc in Windows 7

Sometimes your Windows 7 can be crashed or even damaged. We can predict that thing happen to us. So, a Windows 7 system repair is an important thing you should have. System repair disc in Windows 7 can be used to repair Windows, restore Windows to an earlier time, recover Windows with a system image, check computer memory from errors, and using command prompt. Today, I will show you how to create system repair disc in Windows 7.

Before you create a system repair disc, please provide a blank CD/DVD and a CD/DVD writer hardware. Here’s is how create System Repair Disc in Windows 7:

Open Control Panel. Click on Backup your computer under the System and Security item.

Click Create a system repair disc menu on the left side of the window.

On the Create a system repair disc window, select your CD/DVD drive and make sure you have inserted the balck CD/DVD into teh drive. Click Create disc to start creating system repair disc.

The creta system repair disc process will start. Wait until it completed.

When the disc burning finished, you can start using the system repair disc to repair your Windows 7.

There are some tweaks we can do to the Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail preview to make it suite to our needs. On the previous post I have explained how to increase taskbar thumbnail preview size. With the tips we can increase or decrease the size of Windows 7 taskbar preview. Now, I will show you how to disable taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows 7. If you disable the taskbar thumbnail preview, you wont see a thumbnail shows when the mouse pointer hovered over an application in taskbar.

To disable taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows 7, follow these steps:

Open Registry Editor by clicking Run. Then type regedit and hit Enter.
On the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerTaskband
In the RHS panel on the right side of the Window, create a DWORD value named MinThumbSizePx.
Next, double click on MinThumbSizePx value you have just created to modify it’s value.
Set the base to decimal. Then change the value to 250.

Now close the Registry editor and restart or log off your computer. You will see the change after the computer has restarted.

Everything done. You have disable taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows 7. Enjoy it.

If you think the Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail priview is too small, there is a tips to make it bigger. There is a simple way to increase the size of Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows 7. You just add a new value on the Registry, then everything is done.

Here are the steps to increase the size of Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows 7:

Open Registry Editor by clicking Run. Then type regedit and hit Enter.
On the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerTaskband
In the RHS panel on the right side of the Window, create a DWORD value named MinThumbSizePx.

On the previous post, I have posted about Windows 7 Theme from Bing. The Windows 7 theme contains a lot of beautiful wallpaper. Those wallpapers are taken from animal and landscape pictures around of the world. Now, I have just create my own windows 7 theme. This theme I called Windows 7 theme Iron Man.

The Windows 7 Theme Iron Man contains 15 Iron Man wallpaper which I grab from some websites through Google Image Search. Those wallpaper changes automatically every 30 minutes. The size of the pictures are variates. But I have resize them into 1024×768 pixel.

This Iron Man Windows 7 theme is also change your Windows color (e.g. windows border color, start menu and taskbar) into red color as same as teh Iron Man color. But, it doesn’t have any screen savers and use the default windows sound scheme. Here’s the screenshot of the theme:

Easy Access to Run Dialog Window

There are so many Windows programs can accessed through Run dialog box. For example Registry Editor, Group Policy, Command Prompt, etc.. For you who often work with Run command, perhaps accessed it more then ten times a day. It gonna be a long way when you should click Start then click on Run to display Run dialog window. So, to enable quick access to Run dialog window, there some ways you can use.

To access Run command quickly you can use a keyboard shortcut. You can press the combination of Windows key and R key on your keyboard. Now, press the Windows key and R key at the same time to test it. Does the Run appear? If it doesn’t appear, make sure you have press both key exactly at a same times.

The second way to make an easy access to Run is by creating Run shortcut icon on your desktop. With a shortcut icon on the desktop, you just make a single click to open Run dialog. Here are steps to create run shortcut on your desktop:

Click on Start the point to Run.
Click and hold the Run icon and drag it to your desktop.

Everything finished. Now you have the Run shortcut icon on your desktop. It will be easier to access the Run dialog now. Enjoy it!

Logon Controller, Windows 7 and Vista Logon Tweaker

On the previous post a I have tell you that there is a logon changer for windows 7 name Tweak Logon. Tweak Logon is a free Logon Screen Changer which is simple and easy to use. You can use your own pictures as backgrounds of the logon screen. Now, I have found another Windows 7 Logon changer. It’s name is Logon Cotroller.

Logon Controller’s feature is almost as same as Tweak Logon. You can use pictures as background of you Windows 7 logon screen. Click on browse button and select a picture to change the logon screen. You can use several image format as logon screen background, they are bitmap, jpg, etc. If you want to revert to default logon screen, you just simply click on “Default Logon Background” button on the upper of Logon Controller’s window.

Logon Controller also supported in Windows Vista. You can also use Logon Controller as Windows Vista logon changer. To change the Windows Vista logon screen, you can follow the steps i have mentioned above.

How to Remove BitLocker from USB Flash Drive

On the previous post, I have explain how to encrypt USB flash drive with BitLocker, but I haven’t yet explain how to remove BitLocker from the USB Flash Drive. Perhaps, some of you wants to remove from your removable drive because of some reasons.

There are 5 steps to remove BitLocker Drive Encryption from removable drive. Here are the steps.

Open Control Panel then click on BitLocker drive encryption link.

On the nest window, click Turn Off BitLocker link on your removable drive or USB flash drive.

Next, the BitLocker Drive Encryption window will appear, click on Decrypt Drive button to start the decryption process.

The decryption progress takes some minutes to finish, so wait until the process completed. Do not plug off your removable drive during the process.
After the process completed, a message box appears, tell you the decryption process was completed. Click on Close button to close the window.

Now, you have successfully remove BitLocker from your USB flash drive. But, the drive does’t protected again from data stolen.

Encrypt USB Flash Drive with BitLocker

Since Windows Vista has been released, BitLocker was introduced to Windows User. But, in Windows Vista, BitLocker only supports data encryption on internal hard drive. Now, BitLocker is also supported on Windows 7. It supports to encrypt removable disk, such USB Flash Drive. Using BitLocker on a removable USB flash drive provides a great way to protect your data in the event the drive was lost or stolen.

Do I can access the data if the drive is protected by BitLocker? Yes. You can access your data on Windows XP and Vista through a read-only interface that is installed during the initial encryption. So, you are able to get your data on other Windows Version, not just on your Windows 7 computer.

How to start encrypting a removable drive using BitLocker? Here’s the steps how to encrypt USB Flash drive with BitLocker:

Plug in your USB flash drive into computer. Then, right click on your drive through Windows Explorer and select Turn on BitLocker.

Next, check one of two options provides. You can set a password to protect the drive or use a smart card if your device has a smart card reader. Because my drive does not use smart card, so I choose the first options. Click Next to continue to the next step.

On the next Windows, you will asked to recover the key if you forget the password or lose the smart card. So I recomended you to save the recovery key to a file. Click Next to start Start the Encryption.

Now, the Encryption will be started. It can take a few minutes to complete it. Depending on the size of your USB flash drive. The drive will be protected whe the encryption completed and you can plug off the USB flash drive from your computer.

Now, I will show you how to use the encrypted USB flash drive on another computer with different operating system, for example in Windows XP computer.

First, plug the the encrypted USB falsh drive.
Open the Windows Explorer, the you will see the USB flash drive will have a different icon. Double klik the drive the execute BitLockerToGo.exe.

After you execute it, you will be asked for the password. Type in your password.

Once authenticated, a read-only Windows will appear where you can see the encrypted files.

In order to modify the files, you need to extract it first from the encrypted USB flash drive.
