Did you know about an Ethernet Splitter? For those who are having wiring problem when attaching more device into their network (LAN) might know much about this device. However, some of you might not even heard about it. So, what is an Ethernet Splitter? Ethernet splitter is a device which used to connect two or more network devices or two computers into network (LAN) using only a single Ethernet cable. This device is very useful if you have need to add a new computer into network but you can’t easily add another network cable, for example you cable is behind the wall or you don’t have have enough budget to buy a new cable. Some users called as LAN Splitter.

However, you can directly split Ethernet connection from a single cable. For example, let’s say you have a modem which has 1 Ethernet port. In order to split the internet connection from the modem, you use a splitter in the end of you Ethernet cable that came form you modem that split it into two computers. That will not work at all. In this case, there will be one port that works properly.

Why it doesn’t work? First, it is because Ethernet splitter doesn’t act like a router, hub or switch. You still need router, hub or switch when using this splitter. Second, this LAN Splitter only works if used in pair. So, you have to buy a pair of splitter. One is used on you hub or switch. Another one is used to connect your computers. The Models
There are two models of Ethernet splitter that actually available on the market. Both of them have the same functions. Only their appearance which are different. Those two model is:

1. The splitter which has 2 RJ-45 female ports and a cable with RJ-45 Male connector pre-installed. This is typically used whenever the Ethernet cable installation has a wall outlet.
2. The second model is the splitter which has 3 RJ-45 female ports. This is usually used whenever the Ethernet cable installation doesn’t has a wall outlet. Each points of the Ethernet cable uses RJ-45 Male connector.

Ethernet splitter is almost available in every computer or network parts shop. But, if you gonna buy it online, you can visit Amazon.com. There are a lot of this device available on that site. The price started form $2 for a single Ethernet splitter.

Is There any Possibility to Create an Ethernet Splitter
Yes. You can create your own Ethernet Splitter. There is a tutorial that I have found about how to create an Ethernet splitter. You need to prepare the several things, like two RJ45 Jack, four RJ-45 keystone jack, Ethernet Cable (approximately 2 feet), RJ45 Crimp Tool, Craft knife, 110 Punch Down Tool, and Glue.
