When you get bored with the recycle bin on your desktop, you can remove it. On the previous posts, I have posted how to remove recycle bin icon from your desktop. However, if you remove it from your desktop, you will lose the easiest access to recycle bin. You should open the Windows Explorer to access the recycle bin. So, what we can do to remove the recycle bin icon from your desktop and in the same time you do not lose the easier access to the recycle bin?
There is a way to overcome this problem. You can move the recycle bin icon to the taskbar. This tricks is only works in Windows 7. With the new feature of Windows 7 taskbar, you can pin an icon to it. Follow these steps to pin the recycle bin icon to Windows 7 Taskbar:
- Right click on your desktop and select New »» Shortcut to create a new shortcut on your desktop.
- On the Create Shortcut window, type in “%SystemRoot%explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder” (without quotes) into item location input then click Next to continue.
- On the next window, type the name of icon. For example: Recycle Bin, then click Finish.
- Now your new recycle bin shortcut appear on your desktop, but it don’t have the right icon.
- To change it’s icon, right click on the shortcut, select Properties. Then click Change Icon as shown below.
- Change the icon path to “%SystemRoot%system32imageres.dll” (without quotes). Hit Enter and select the Recycle Bin Icon then click OK.
- Now the new shortcut has the Recycle Bin icon
- For the last step, drag the new Recycle Bin shortcut onto the taskbar and it will be pinned directly. Once the shortcut is pinned, you can delete the original on the desktop.

All done. Now you have a new recycle bin icon on your windows 7 taskbar. You can access the recycle bin easily from this icon. That’s an easy tricks to pin Recycle Bin into Windows 7 taskbar. Good luck!
