I none of you doesn’t know Facebook. This social networking service is connecting everyone in the world. One feature that is often used on this service is the chat feature. Perhaps many of us use this Facebook feature to chat with our friends. Moreover, in addition to chat using Facebook, we also chat using IM (Instant Messaging) like Yahoo Messenger. So, sometimes if you have to click the internet browser to chat on Facebook then click again the IM to chat with your in IM.
But now there’s an IM that support Facebook Chat. So you can chat in Facebook while chat in Yahoo Messenger in same time and the same window. This applications is called Pidgin.
Pidgin is made for Linux Operating System. This application is used as an IM for several accounts such as Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, IRC and others. But now, a Facebook’s plugin has provided for Pidgin. So, you can chat with friends on facebook and chat with friends on Yahoo Messenger for example.
Pidgin also can manage multiple accounts simultaneously. You can chat on Yahoo while you chat on Facebook, Google Talk or others at the sam etime and the same window. The account that supported by Pidgin including: AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber / XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell Groupwise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. In addition to chat, you can also update your Facebook status from Pidgin. Pidgin also provide notification email features such as Yahoo Messenger, file transfer, buddy icons and customize your existing smiley with your own smiley. You can use Pidgin for free without time limitation.
To be able to use Facebook chat on Pidgin, there are several steps that you need to be so. First, download the pidgin-2.5.6.rar (11.8 MB) here. After that you also need to download pidgin-facebookchat-1.47_2.exe (222 KB) here. Then extract the pidgin-2.5.6(Windows).rar and run the extracted file to install Pidgin. Continue the installation process until it’s completed. If Pidgin already installed on your computer, before running it first install the Facebook plugin that you have downloaded earlier. Follow the installation process until finish. When it finished run Pidgin. Then you will see the Welcome screen as shown below.
Click the Add button to add a Facebook account.
Then enter your email and password to your Facebook. Mark the option “Remember password” if you want Pidgin to remember your password. You can also mark on the “New mail notification” if you want it notify you for new mail. You can also change the icon of your account by checking the option “Use this buddy icon for my account”. Finish it by clicking on Add button.
If you are connected to Facebook, then you can see your friends on facebook who are online. To add a new account click the Add button on the Welcome window and follow the instructions above. You can also use the Manage Account menu to do so. For more information about the features that have Pidgin please read the Help provided in this application.
